Clear Brook High School families face new class rank and honors rules after Clear Creek ISD trustees approved policy changes for the district's virtual program Monday, Sept. 28.
The board's unanimous vote on revised Clear Tech Virtual policies addresses how virtual students will share class rank with Clear Brook students, according to the district's board report. The revisions also place eligibility restrictions on Clear Tech Virtual students for valedictorian and salutatorian honors. The district has not specified whether "sharing" class rank means virtual students join Clear Brook's ranking pool or follow a parallel system.
Board Vice President Jessica Cejka pulled the item from the consent agenda to discuss class rank, enrollment and student progress in the program.
Clear Tech Virtual launched this fall as a tuition-free partnership between CCISD and Texas Tech K-12, serving students in grades 3–9. Additional grade levels will be added as the first ninth-grade class advances. Students remain CCISD-enrolled and can participate in extracurricular activities at their home campus.
Superintendent Karen Engle said in August, when the district announced the program, that Clear Tech gives families "greater choice while maintaining the academic rigor … they expect" from CCISD and Texas Tech K-12.
The board also unanimously approved a $140,000 annual contract with Xello, Inc., for a new College and Career Readiness platform running through Aug. 31, 2027. Cejka pulled that item from the consent agenda as well. Director of Counseling and Student Services Kristina Ford told the board the platform increases parent participation, offers career exploration tools and helps families navigate transcript requests. The district's high school planning guide had listed Naviance by PowerSchool as its prior career-planning tool, though CCISD has not confirmed whether Xello fully replaces it.
In a separate action, trustees unanimously approved a land option and lease agreement with 4M Towers, a telecommunications company that builds and operates wireless tower infrastructure. The board discussed the item in closed session from 7:38 p.m. to 9:21 p.m. before voting.
The district has not disclosed which property is involved in the 4M Towers lease or the financial terms of the agreement.
