Friendswood's defending District 20-5A champion Mustangs beat Ball High and Texas City by identical 17-2 scores on back-to-back days, first reported by The Daily News.

The Mustangs handled Ball High on Tuesday, Sept. 22, then took down Texas City on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Against the Stingarees, Friendswood won six of seven doubles and swept the girls singles. No. 1 girls player Evelyn Sarafin won 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets over Maria Almaguer.

Texas City managed wins only in No. 1 boys doubles, where Cesar Almaguer and Alex Gray prevailed, and No. 4 boys singles, where Chandler McNeil rallied from a set down for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 comeback.

Ball High's loss to Friendswood, combined with a 15-4 defeat to Angleton on Sept. 23, officially eliminated the Tors from the 20-5A postseason picture. First-year head coach Jamie Masonheimer said the Tors still competed.

"We split sets in several matches and competed well," Masonheimer said after the Angleton loss. "Our varsity freshmen continue to steadily improve."

Friendswood head coach David Cook's squad travels to Angleton on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Clear Lake holds co-lead in 18-6A

Clear Lake, the defending 18-6A champion, rolled past Barbers Hill 17-2 on Sept. 23 to maintain its standing as a district co-frontrunner. The Falcons face a pivotal test Friday, Sept. 25, when Clear Springs visits.

Clear Brook dropped three straight matches in four days. The Wolverines fell 16-3 to Clear Springs on Sept. 23, with Clear Springs senior Priyanka Kamath staying undefeated this fall at No. 1 girls singles. Clear Springs head coach Ryan Sarten said his girls won all their singles matches for the first time this season.

Clear Brook then lost 17-2 to Clear Falls on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Wolverines visit Clear Creek on Friday, Sept. 25, then host Dickinson on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
