Nassau Bay's City Council is gathering six city boards under one roof at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, to hash out spending priorities for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1.

The budget workshop takes place at City Hall Council Chambers, 1800 Space Park Drive, Suite 200. According to the city's posted agenda, the session covers the Fiscal Year 2027 Proposed Budget, which will fund city operations from Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027.

Six boards are part of the review: the City Council, Economic Development Board, Maritime Safety Committee, Parks and Recreation, Animal Control Board and NASA Area Management District. The single substantive agenda item for each is council input and discussion regarding the proposed FY2027 budget.

No votes are scheduled.

Nassau Bay, a 1.75-square-mile waterfront city of roughly 5,300 residents adjacent to Johnson Space Center, is home to more than 200 businesses and agencies, including aerospace firms like Lockheed Martin and Boeing, according to the city's business page. That commercial corridor is a key piece of the tax base the council will be weighing.

Residents who want to weigh in can speak during the Citizens' Comments portion of the meeting. Speakers are limited to three minutes and may not yield time to another person.

City Secretary Maria E. Rodriguez certified the workshop notices, which were posted July 29 on the City Hall bulletin board and the city's website in compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act. Portions of the meeting may be conducted by video conference, though a quorum of the council will be physically present.

No specific department-level spending proposals or dollar figures appear in the posted agendas. A formal budget adoption vote is expected before the Oct. 1 start of FY2027, though no date has been announced.

The Maritime Safety Committee also has a separate regular meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 4 p.m. in the same council chambers. That agenda includes discussion of wildlife warning signs around the lagoon and creek, a proposed Voluntary Vessel Safety Check Day with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and installation of Marine Safety Information Bulletin Boards. Outgoing board member Jim Stoa will receive special recognition.
