Nassau Bay is rallying residents to help the city win the 2026 Scenic City People's Choice award.

The city posted an alert on its website on Friday, Sept. 11, calling on neighbors to cast a vote for Nassau Bay before Friday, Oct. 30. The People's Choice contest, now in its fifth year, is run by Scenic Texas, a statewide nonprofit dedicated to preserving and improving the visual character of Texas communities.

The contest is open to cities that hold a Scenic City certification from the organization. Nassau Bay carries a Gold certification, according to the group's current certified-cities listing. The city earned a Silver recertification in 2020 and has since been upgraded to Gold, though the exact date of that upgrade is not confirmed.

Nassau Bay's certification recognized the city's sign ordinances and erosion-control work along the waterfront, according to the listing. Those efforts protect the local watershed and support habitats for aquatic species and native plants, the organization said.

The Scenic City Certification Program launched in 2009 and began accepting applications in 2010. Scenic Texas describes it as the first program of its kind in the country. The program recognizes Texas communities that commit to long-term care of their public spaces.

Nassau Bay, centered on Space Park Drive near Johnson Space Center, is competing against other certified cities across the state. Richmond and Fort Worth are also seeking votes this year, according to posts from those cities. The full list of nominees was not available.

Voting is free and open to anyone. One vote per IP address is allowed. Residents can vote at scenictexas.org.
