Clear Lake Shores residents can line up their golf carts Tuesday, Oct. 6, for a community parade leading into the city's National Night Out celebration at Shell Bottom Park.

The parade lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. at Jarboe Park, according to a city announcement. The Clear Lake Shores Police Department and the Kemah Fire Department will lead the procession to Shell Bottom Park, where the main event starts at 6 p.m.

The event is free.

Four groups are putting it together: the City of Clear Lake Shores, the police department, the Kemah Fire Department and the Clear Lake Shores Civic Club. The evening doubles as a crime-prevention outreach, giving residents a chance to meet neighbors and get to know local officers and firefighters outside of an emergency.

Free food and fire trucks

The Civic Club is providing complimentary hot dogs and Frito pie. A Civic Club volunteer named Art and his crew will handle the serving.

Children can pose for photos with Clear Lake Shores police officers, Kemah firefighters and a KFD fire truck at the park. National Night Out is observed on the first Tuesday in October across Texas communities, and the annual tradition draws neighborhoods together around public safety.

Nassau Bay is also scheduled to hold a separate National Night Out event the same evening, according to a city alert.
