Narcissus Road in Clear Lake Shores will get its mesh layer Tuesday, Sept. 29. The final asphalt coat will follow block by block in the days after, according to a city alert posted Friday, Sept. 25.

The mesh layer will cover the entire length of Narcissus. Once it cures, residents can drive on it while crews apply the top coat of asphalt section by section, the city said.

The paving work has stretched well past the city's original summer schedule.

A project timeline on the city's Narcissus Road project page called for equipment mobilization starting July 14, followed by storm sewer installation from July 15 through July 17. Mill-and-overlay work was set to begin Aug. 10 and move block by block from South Shore Drive to North Shore Drive, wrapping up by Sept. 3. Street striping was scheduled for Sept. 10, with final cleanup and punch-out running Sept. 14 through Sept. 18. All dates were listed as weather-dependent. The city's project page lists Lucas Construction as the contractor, with field superintendent Josh Keltner as the on-site contact.

That timeline slipped. On Aug. 31, the city posted a separate alert stating road work had resumed on the north end of Narcissus Road and urging drivers to use alternate routes to avoid delays. The alert signaled the project had fallen behind but did not explain why.

The Sept. 25 update did not specify exact dates for when each block would receive the top asphalt layer. The city described the timeline only as "following days" after the Sept. 29 mesh application.

No reason for the delay has appeared in city alerts. The city has urged drivers to use alternate routes during the work to avoid traffic congestion.
