Nassau Bay residents have one more chance to walk into City Hall and talk directly with Mayor Phil Johnson and City Manager Paul Lopez: Saturday, Sept. 26. A Friday session was also held this morning.

The city held "Coffee with the Mayor and City Manager" sessions both mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. in the City Council Chambers at 1800 Space Park Drive, Suite 200. The city's main phone line is 281-333-4211.

Nassau Bay posted the announcement on Thursday, Sept. 24, describing the sessions as a chance for residents to ask questions, offer feedback and hear about upcoming city projects from Johnson and Lopez.

The coffee sessions fall days before a consequential vote. A City Council special meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. in the same council chambers.

That meeting includes a public hearing on the proposed property tax rate for fiscal year 2026–27. Residents will have a chance to speak at the hearing before the council votes on Ordinance No. 2026-0928-1.

The ordinance would hold the tax rate steady at $0.670499 per $100 of assessed valuation, the same rate as the current fiscal year. But homeowners would still see a change on their bills.

According to the meeting agenda, the tax on the average Nassau Bay homestead would drop from $2,537.11 to $2,481.66 under the proposed rate. That amounts to a decrease of $55.45, or about 2.19%. The decline is driven by a drop in average homestead taxable value, not a rate cut.

Residents who want to ask Johnson or Lopez about the tax rate, city projects or any other Nassau Bay business before that vote have one more morning to do it. The Sept. 28 special meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
