Senior quarterback Josh Brister threw four touchdown passes as Friendswood blanked Katy Freeman 30-0 in District 11-5A-D1 play Friday, Oct. 16, at Henry Winston Stadium.

The win pushed the Mustangs to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in district, their best start since 2010. That squad finished 13-2, falling to eventual state champion Lake Travis in the 4A-D1 state semifinals, as first reported by the Galveston County Daily News.

Brister completed 18 of 28 passes for 263 yards. He threw one interception on the opening drive, his first pick of the season. On his very next pass attempt, he fired a 68-yard touchdown to Jackson Owens, who finished with a team-high 122 yards on four catches.

Friendswood led 14-0 before Freeman recorded a first down.

"The No. 1 thing for us was, how quickly can we get points on the board," head coach Jordan Johnson said. "And that's how we set up our game plan."

Brister also connected with Charlie Moore on a 13-yard score, Finn Urban on a 5-yard touchdown and Peyton Lowe on a 25-yard strike. Noah Clegg added a 26-yard field goal to cap the scoring.

The Mustangs rolled up 320 total yards.

Johnson, in his fourth year leading the program, said his coaching staff worked hard during fall break to keep players sharp. He noted the disrupted schedule could have led to a letdown, but the team showed maturity and came ready to play.

It was Friendswood's second shutout of the season after an 80-0 win over Fort Bend Dulles on Sept. 18.

The victory sets up a showdown at Angleton (7-0, 5-0) on Friday, Oct. 23. Friendswood then has a bye before hosting Richmond Randle (7-0, 5-0) on Nov. 6 in the regular-season finale.
