Jackson Owens hauled in 276 receiving yards, a new Friendswood school record, as the Mustangs held off the Iowa Colony Pioneers 48-42 on Friday, Oct. 2, at Henry Winston Stadium.

The win pushed Friendswood to 6-0 for the first time since 2010.

Senior quarterback Josh Brister threw for 451 yards in a game that produced 1,151 combined yards of offense, first reported by the Galveston Daily News. Owens scored four touchdowns on catches of 58, 25, 79 and 34 yards. His 79-yard reception in the fourth quarter stretched the Mustangs' lead to 42-28.

Iowa Colony struck first. Pioneers quarterback Izard Evans scored on a 4-yard keeper to put Iowa Colony ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. Friendswood answered after cornerback Rit Johnson intercepted a pass at midfield. The Mustangs converted the turnover into a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.

Friendswood built a 21-14 lead before halftime, but Iowa Colony's Alonzo Bailey scooped up a fumble and raced 99 yards for a touchdown to knot the score at 21 heading into the break.

The Mustangs opened the second half with a Brister-to-Owens 25-yard touchdown to retake the lead at 28-21. Peyton Lowe added a 78-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter to push the advantage to 35-28.

Kicker Noah Clegg connected on field goals of 27 and 23 yards in the fourth quarter, pushing the score to 45-28 and then 48-35. Iowa Colony scored a late touchdown with 50 seconds left, but Grant Martin recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal the win. Martin also recovered a fumble in the end zone on Iowa Colony's opening drive to prevent an early score.

"We can't pick the order of our schedule, but we can pick how we play, and I thought our guys picked physicality and to play 48 minutes tonight and be resilient," head coach Jordan Johnson told the Galveston Daily News after the Friday night win. "I was really proud of that."

Peter Branom recovered two Iowa Colony fumbles, including an onside kick attempt in the fourth quarter that set up Clegg's second field goal.

Friendswood, which outscored opponents 294-38 through its first five games, faces Pasadena at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Pasadena ISD Veterans Memorial Stadium.
