Every Friendswood ISD campus scored an A in the 2026 Texas accountability ratings, giving the district a clean sweep and an overall score of 92.
The district announced Thursday, Aug. 13, that C.W. Cline Elementary, Westwood Elementary, Windsong Intermediate, Zue S. Bales Intermediate, Friendswood Junior High and Friendswood High School each earned the top mark independently. The district also posted a 99% graduation rate.
The achievement marks the second consecutive year Friendswood ISD has earned an overall A from the Texas Education Agency. The district received the same letter grade in 2025, though no numeric score from that year is publicly available for comparison.
What the ratings measure
TEA's A-F system scores districts on Student Achievement and School Progress, which together account for 70% of the grade, and Closing the Gaps, which measures how well student subgroups perform and accounts for the remaining 30%, according to a Dallas Morning News explainer. STAAR results, graduation rates and college-and-career readiness all factor in.
The statewide public release of all 2026 ratings is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 14, at txschools.gov. The scores are preliminary; districts have a 30-day appeal window, and TEA expects to finalize ratings in December.
Good news in a tough stretch
The all-A announcement lands during a challenging period for the district. Westwood Elementary's first day of school was delayed after elevated mold levels were found in the building in July. Environmental testing linked the mold to HVAC failures that allowed moisture into sections of the roof. The district said no black mold was identified. As of Tuesday, Aug. 11, the school's anticipated reopening is Monday, Aug. 24, pending confirmation from environmental professionals. All other FISD campuses are set to open as scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Separately, a former employee of The Galloway School, a private academy in Friendswood, was arrested Aug. 7 on child sexual abuse charges. That case involves no Friendswood ISD staff or campuses, but it drew attention to the broader Friendswood education community during the same week.
What's next
The Friendswood ISD Board of Trustees held its most recent regular meeting Monday, Aug. 10. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, at 5:45 p.m., according to the district's BoardBook page. Families who want to hear trustees formally receive the accountability results can watch for that agenda.
