Five LyondellBasell engineers spent Tuesday, Aug. 18, sorting sizes and matching styles at a local Target, hand-picking new school-year wardrobes for 40 students served by Clear Creek ISD, Friendswood ISD and other Bay Area districts.

Dhwani Kad, David Sampson, Sarah Jackson, Emily Poux and Amy Davidson joined Bay Area Service League members for the nonprofit's Shop & Deliver program, a component of its larger Ready for School initiative that serves nine local school districts. The volunteers reviewed each student's application, checked clothing preferences and assembled bags that will be delivered directly to campuses, according to the league's website.

The program fills a specific gap.

Shop & Deliver exists for students who cannot make it to the league's in-store shopping days at Baybrook Mall. Instead of asking families to travel, volunteers do the selecting at Target and bring finished bags to schools.

LyondellBasell, which operates a chemical plant on Bay Area Boulevard in Pasadena near the Clear Lake area, supports the program as both a financial grantor and a source of hands-on volunteers. The company's engineers sorted through racks, matched items to student preferences and packaged each bag so recipients would have outfits that fit and reflect their personal style.

The Aug. 18 volunteer day was not the program's first run this season. On July 31, Shop & Deliver volunteers outfitted 46 students from Galveston ISD and Odyssey Academy. This week, Alamo Elementary in Galveston ISD also received a full bundle of bags, and district staff added polo shirts and jackets the league had purchased earlier in the summer, according to a separate program overview posted the same day.

Ready for School is Bay Area Service League's largest philanthropic effort for the 2026-2027 school year, serving students across nine districts including Clear Creek ISD, Friendswood ISD, Galveston ISD, Dickinson ISD and Texas City ISD. Since 1989, the league has supplied more than 56,000 Bay Area students with essential school clothing such as shoes, jackets, underwear and hygiene supplies.

Lisa Holbrook, who authored the league's announcement, wrote that the partnership with LyondellBasell makes a tangible difference and that the 40 students will start the school year with confidence.
