Drivers on Narcissus Road in Clear Lake Shores should expect delays through mid-September as Lucas Construction mills and repaves the street from end to end.
The city issued a road work alert on Monday, Aug. 24, confirming that milling and repaving has reached the north end of Narcissus Road. The city is asking drivers to find alternate routes while crews work.
The project kicked off July 14 with equipment mobilization and storm sewer installation at several stations along the road. Crews spent the first week setting up temporary facilities and installing a stormwater pollution prevention plan before moving into sewer work at multiple points between July 15 and July 25.
The paving phase started Aug. 10 and is moving northward in roughly weeklong segments. According to the city's project schedule posted July 13, the work is progressing block by block:
- Aug. 10–14: South Shore Drive to Forest Road
- Aug. 17–20: Forest Road to Ivy
- Aug. 24–27: Ivy to Juniper (current segment)
- Aug. 31–Sept. 3: Juniper to North Shore Drive
That means residents between Ivy and Juniper are in the active work zone through Thursday, Aug. 27. Those living between Juniper and North Shore Drive should prepare for crews to arrive Monday, Aug. 31.
The project spans the full length of Narcissus Road, from South Shore Drive at the south end to North Shore Drive at the north. That covers the island's primary north-south residential corridor.
After the milling and overlay wraps up, crews will clean and reshape roadside ditches Sept. 7–9, stripe the entire road on Sept. 10 and complete final cleanup and punch-out Sept. 14–18. All dates are subject to change depending on weather.
