The YouTuber stabbed while livestreaming at the Clear Lake Parks public boat ramps on Aug. 16 now believes the masked attacker may have been targeting him specifically over videos he previously posted on his channel.

Austin Lewis, who runs the YouTube channel "Captain Crunch Boats" with more than 34,000 subscribers, told KPRC 2 on Wednesday, Aug. 19, that the attack felt premeditated.

"It's very possible. I wouldn't rule it out at all. They were obviously watching the channel, in my opinion," Lewis said.

Lewis has posted 312 videos documenting boaters launching and loading at local ramps along NASA Parkway. He was livestreaming when a bystander shouted "Look out" from behind him. Lewis turned to find a man in a full balaclava, black long-sleeve shirt pulled over his hands, black pants and brown boots lunging with a knife.

The attacker was not part of the group of boaters Lewis had been arguing with across the parking lot. Those boaters came to his aid, calling police and an ambulance.

The suspect also slashed the tires of a black truck belonging to another fisherman at the ramp. That fisherman told ABC13 his truck looks exactly like Lewis's vehicle, suggesting the attacker may have targeted the wrong one.

Lewis suffered minor injuries. He said this was the second time someone has pulled a knife on him at a boat ramp, but the first time he was actually stabbed.

Fishing guide Harrison Woods, who told ABC13 on Aug. 17 that he visits the Clear Lake dock about seven days a week and regularly sees Lewis there, said the attack appeared personal based on the livestream video showing the suspect approach from behind.

No more livestreams for now

Lewis said he will not return to the ramp to make videos for the time being. He told KPRC 2 he plans to continue making static recordings if he does go back but that livestreaming "is going to be a hard one."

The Harris County Sheriff's Office has obtained video that may show the suspect but has not found a clear image of the person's face. As of Friday, Aug. 21, the suspect has not been publicly identified and the investigation remains open.

Lewis posted on social media after the attack that police had a suspect and were "actively hunting him down," but HCSO has not publicly confirmed identifying anyone.
