President Trump's arrival in Houston around 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, and a Friday morning ceremony at Johnson Space Center will bring security-related traffic delays to roads through Webster, Nassau Bay and surrounding Clear Lake communities.

Trump is scheduled to present the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the four Artemis II astronauts at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at JSC, according to NASA. The presidential motorcade's route between Ellington Field and the space center crosses several major Clear Lake corridors.

No official road-closure orders have been released by local police or the Secret Service. CW39 Houston published a traffic advisory Wednesday, Aug. 26, identifying roads likely to be affected and recommending alternates based on the expected motorcade path.

Thursday, Aug. 27: roads to avoid around 5 p.m.

Drivers heading home through southeast Houston should steer clear of:

  • Galveston Road (Hwy 3)
  • Space Center Boulevard
  • Clear Lake City Boulevard
  • Sam Houston Tollway from just north of the Gulf Freeway south to NASA Bypass

Recommended alternates: Red Bluff Road, Main Street in League City, Hwy 146, Beamer Road and Dixie Farm Road west of the Gulf Freeway.

Friday, Aug. 28: roads to avoid through 11 a.m.

As Trump's motorcade moves toward JSC for the 10 a.m. ceremony, expect delays on:

  • Second Street
  • Saturn Lane at East NASA Parkway
  • Space Center Boulevard at East NASA Parkway

Recommended alternates: El Camino Real, NASA Bypass through Nassau Bay, Old Galveston Road, Hwy 146 and Bay Area Boulevard.

Plan extra time. CW39 advised that presidential security movements can shift without warning, and drivers should be prepared for temporary disruptions near the arrival area both days.

What's happening at JSC

NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, will receive the medal. The four completed a 10-day mission around the Moon on April 10, the first crewed flight beyond the Moon in more than 50 years. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman will join the ceremony, which will stream live at nasa.gov/live.

No official post-event traffic clearance time has been announced for Friday.
