The Bay Area Service League's Ready for School program received a $10,000 grant from Yaga's Children's Fund, nearly doubling Yaga's prior-year donation to the program.
Tammie Caballero, representing Yaga's Children's Fund, presented the check to Bay Area Service League member Sarah Foulds on Saturday, Oct. 3. The grant will help the Webster-based league buy school clothing for students across Galveston County.
Caballero credited the increase to league members' hands-on work at fund events, including purchasing raffle tickets, staffing the volunteer gate, judging cook-off entries and helping at the kickoff and T-shirt roll.
"Your members' support in all areas … made our event a success," Caballero said. "You all deserve this award increase."
Ready for School, the league's largest program, has provided clothing to more than 38,000 students since 2001, according to the organization. In the fiscal year ending May 31, 2026, the program dressed 2,375 students across eight independent school districts and one public charter district, including Clear Creek, Friendswood, Dickinson, Galveston, Texas City, Santa Fe, La Porte and Deer Park ISDs.
Elementary students in the program receive $150 to spend at designated JCPenney or Target stores. Secondary students receive $200. Volunteers also provide uniforms, jackets, shoes, socks, underwear and hygiene kits.
For the current school year, the program launched a Shop & Deliver option that lets students indicate clothing preferences. Volunteers then select items at local Target stores and deliver them directly to campuses. In-person shopping at JCPenney stores began Aug. 4.
Yaga's Children's Fund, founded in 1997, has distributed more than $2.1 million to Galveston County charities. The fund awarded $86,000 to 17 charities in 2025. It raises money through its annual Wild Game and BBQ Cook-Off at Moody Gardens Resort in Galveston.
The Bay Area Service League operates a resale shop at 100 East Nasa Parkway, Suite 80, in Webster. The league reported $1.2 million returned to the community and more than 33,000 volunteer hours logged during the 2025-2026 year.
Grant applications for Yaga's Children's Fund opened Oct. 1.
