Friendswood police arrested a 20-year-old Houston man accused of stealing more than $6,000 from a coffee shop on South Friendswood Drive.

Tanerio Jenkins faces a charge of burglary of a building after the Galveston County District Attorney's Office accepted the case. His bond was set at $100,000.

The burglary occurred at approximately 3:36 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Pearland Coffee Roasters, 201 S. Friendswood Drive, according to the Friendswood Police Department. More than $6,000 in cash was taken.

Investigators used surveillance video and other tools to identify Jenkins and a vehicle believed to have been involved, KGTX 7 reported.

The next day, Wednesday, Sept. 2, Friendswood officers stopped Jenkins while he was driving on Highway 3 in Webster. Police said the vehicle matched the one identified through the investigation.

During a search, officers found a backpack inside the vehicle containing a firearm, marijuana and approximately $3,600 in cash, police said.

Jenkins told investigators the firearm had been used to try to open two safes inside the shop and that the recovered cash was connected to the Pearland Coffee Roasters burglary, according to police.

Police said they will be able to return the $3,600 to the business owner. The remaining roughly $2,400 has not been accounted for in any public statement from the department.

Jenkins was being held in the Galveston County Jail as of Friday, Sept. 4, according to The Daily News of Galveston. No attorney for Jenkins has been publicly identified, and no response on his behalf appears in available records.

Police also said they believe Jenkins may be connected to multiple other business burglaries in the surrounding area. The department has not identified those businesses or released details about the scope of the additional investigations.
