Eight LyondellBasell employees filled shopping bags with new shoes, clothes and books for local students at the Baybrook Target in Webster on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The volunteers joined Bay Area Service League members and Target staff for the nonprofit's Ready for School Shop & Deliver program. Working from individual student applications, they selected shoes, shirts, pants, jackets, underwear and socks matched to each child's preferences and school dress codes. Each bag also included a hygiene kit and books.

Bay Area Service League volunteers then delivered the completed bags directly to students' campuses across several school districts.

The LyondellBasell volunteers were Lisa Causey, Lisa Corrington, Amy Davidson, Yvonne Dean, Lisa Dykman, Michelle Fuller, Sabrina Wood and Marible Zepada. Davidson brought along her daughter, the event's youngest participant, who celebrated her first birthday during the shopping trip.

"It was a great experience with a lot of help and guidance, and I'll be taking part in this organization in the future!" one LyondellBasell volunteer said in comments shared by Bay Area Service League. Several other volunteers called the day rewarding and said they were grateful for the chance to give back.

Bay Area Service League said it hoped students would feel the care and attention that went into preparing each bag.

The Shop & Deliver program has volunteers review each student's application, pick the requested clothing at a local Target store and deliver the items straight to campus. Ready for School is Bay Area Service League's largest philanthropic program, serving students from pre-K through 12th grade across nine school districts in Southeast Harris and Galveston counties.

Bay Area Service League has not announced additional Shop & Deliver dates.
